Preparations for the final stretch are underway, with crews currently working 24/7 to demolish the existing Pakenham Station, remove boom gates and get the new stations ready for passengers.
A new era of connectivity
The new Pakenham East train station promises to transform the commuting experience for residents in the southeast. This state-of-the-art facility will feature 300 car parks, bike facilities, bus bays, and convenient pick-up and drop-off zones, ensuring seamless connections for everyone.
Enhanced public transport access
Starting June 3rd, all Pakenham Line services will extend to the new Pakenham East station, maintaining frequent service schedules with trains running every 5-10 minutes during weekday peaks and every 20 minutes during off-peak times and weekends. This enhanced service will make daily commutes smoother and more reliable for future Kala residents.
Level crossing free for improved safety
The opening of the Pakenham East train station coincides with the removal of three level crossings at Main Street, McGregor Road, and Racecourse Road. By building a 2.5km elevated rail bridge, the area will not only be safer but also less congested. This project will also create new community open spaces for locals to enjoy for generations to come.
Modern and accessible facilities
Both the new Pakenham and Pakenham East stations are designed with the future in mind. The elevated Pakenham Station will become the centrepiece of the town centre, featuring a new forecourt complete with seating, landscaping, and an integrated bus interchange. These modern facilities will ensure easier and safer local connections for all residents.
Preparing for the future
Pakenham East train station will serve an essential function, catering for one of Melbourne’s fastest-growing suburbs, which will see 7,200 new homes built in coming years. Having this infrastructure in place before residents move in will help improve the reliability of metropolitan and regional train services, reducing congestion and delays.
Ongoing developments and improvements
Leading up to the opening, significant work will be completed, including the demolition of the existing Pakenham Station and the installation of new infrastructure. While this will involve some temporary disruptions, such as road closures and bus replacements for train services, these short-term inconveniences will lead to long-term benefits for the community.
